The Court of Special Judge for Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) cases, Ghaziabad has sentenced four accused including Shashi Kant, then Deputy Commissioner (Customs), ICD Dadri, Gautam Buddha Nagar (UP) to 4 years of Imprisonment with a fine of Rs 8 Lakh, his wife Sweta to 2 years of Imprisonment with a fine of Rs 4 Lakh, Narender Kumar Chugh, then Chief Promoter of M/S Aban Exim Pvt. Ltd. (Pvt. Person) to 4 years of Imprisonment with a fine of Rs 8 Lakh and Satish Gupta, (middleman) to 4 years of Imprisonment with a fine of Rs 8 Lakh in a case related to bribery of Rs 5 lakh. The total fine imposed by the Court comes to Rs 28 Lakh.
According to information released by CBI regarding this case “CBI had registered the instant case on 29.11.2013 against the said accused, namely, Shashi Kant, then Deputy Commissioner (DC) (Customs); Narender Kumar Chug; and Satish Gupta (middleman) and other unknown persons. It was alleged that Narender Kumar Chug, contacted the middleman Satish Gupta for release of his company’s shipment of tyres, seized by Customs Department at ICD, Dadri, Gautam Budha Nagar (UP) It was also alleged that Satish Gupta approached DC Shashi Kant, then Deputy Commissioner (Customs), ICD Dadri, in order to get the seized consignment of the company cleared favourably. Further Shashi Kant in turn demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from Narender Kumar Chugh through said middleman Satish Gupta for showing favour”
Statement further said, “CBI laid a trap and apprehended Narender Kumar Chugh while paying bribe of Rs 5.00 lakh on 29.11.2013 to Sweta (w/o Shashi Kant), who received the same at her residence at Noida, on behalf of the said public servant. Searches were conducted at the residential and official premises of the accused and Shashi Kant, Narender Kumar Chug and Satish Gupta, were arrested on 30.11.2013 and they were later enlarged on bail. During investigation, evidences were collected against the accused persons and Chargesheet in the case was filed on 29.01.2014. CBI cited 31 prosecution witnesses along with a number of documents before the Court, during trial. After trial, the Court held the accused guilty and accordingly sentenced them”
