Airtel's CEO Gopal Vittal advocates for e-SIM adoption over traditional physical SIM cards, citing benefits such as improved user experience and security measures.

The switch to e-SIMs can be initiated through the Airtel Thanks app, and they can be used across a wide range of devices that support this technology.
Gopal Vittal, the head of Airtel, wants people to consider using e-SIMs instead of regular SIM cards for their phones. He believes e-SIMs offer several advantages, especially in terms of security and ease of use.

So, what exactly are e-SIMs? They're like SIM cards, but they're built into your phone instead of being a physical card you insert. They use special software inside your device to work. While they make it easier to stay connected, switching to a new phone with an e-SIM can be a bit more complicated.

Vittal recently sent an email to Airtel customers, talking about the benefits of e-SIMs. He mentioned that e-SIMs provide seamless connectivity, making it simple to switch between devices. He also highlighted how e-SIMs could make it harder for thieves to take out the SIM, which helps in tracking a stolen phone."Additionally, in instances of theft, if your device gets stolen, it will be that much harder for criminals to get rid of your e-SIM, since they are unlike the traditional SIMs that could be physically removed from phones. This will also make a lost smartphone easier to track," Vittal said in an emailed statement to Airtel customers.

He also mentioned that Airtel’s e-SIMs can be used on any device that supports this technology. For those interested in swapping their physical SIMs for e-SIMs, the process can be done through the Airtel Thanks app.

The trend of using e-SIMs gained traction when Apple introduced them with the iPhone 12 series, offering a new way to use two SIMs on one phone. Since then, many other phone brands like Samsung, Motorola, and OnePlus have started making phones that work with e-SIMs too.

Switching to e-SIMs marks a significant change in how we use our phones. It aims to make things easier and more secure for users. By moving away from physical SIM cards and embracing e-SIMs, people can enjoy smoother connectivity and added security features in case their phone gets lost or stolen. With Vittal's encouragement, Airtel users are encouraged to explore these benefits for a better phone experience.
