Miffed over the issue of State GST (SGST) notices being sent to industrialists to cough up tax for 2018-19 on the basis of assessments, a delegation of Fastener Suppliers Association Ludhiana (FSAL) led by president Rajkumar Singla met Deputy Commissioner State Taxes (DCST) Darbir Raj Kaur. The businessmen the explained to DCST that when they have already paid taxes for the said period then why these notices are being sent to them moreover they were not given a chance to present their case before department.
According to FSAL president Singla, “A lot of businessmen have been slapped with notices for payment of taxes to the tunes of several lakh of rupees pertaining to the period of 2018-19. Via this notices we are being asked to pay back the amount of Input Tax Credit (ITC) along with bank interest in those cases where the sellers from whom we had then purchased goods had not paid their taxes. During our meeting with the DCST we have told her that why we should be held liable for act of default committed by someone else, specially when we have made genuine dealing”
Singla also informed that they have asked the department to cancel the notices and during their conversation with DCST , she assured them that no genuine businessman will be harassed by anyone . DCST has also asked them to cross check their returns and in case they have paid their taxes fully they can contact the concerned official and she also advised them to reply to the notices.
