As Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema prepares to announce the State Budget 2024, Ludhiana industrialists are hopeful that the FM will implement measures to stimulate industry and trade.

Thesocial24 spoke to United Cycle Parts and Manufacturers Association (UCPMA) chairman Charanjit Singh Vishivkarma to know about the expectations of the bicycle industry for this budget.

According to Vishivkarma, the bicycle industry's primary demand from the Punjab budget is the reinstatement of the Mai Bhago Vidya Scheme. Under this scheme, free bicycles were distributed to schoolgirls studying in classes 9th through 12th in government schools. Vishivkarma stated that this scheme was initiated during the previous Congress-led state government. He emphasized that resuming it would significantly benefit the state's bicycle industry.

Vishivkarma also stressed the importance of expediting the completion of Halwara Airport in Ludhiana and commencing domestic and international flights from there."
